- I’ve never had chiropractic care. What can I expect on my first visit?
- Experiences are individual in nature, but we can tell you what our procedures are regarding your first visit to our clinic and what you can expect from that point on should you be assigned a treatment plan. For a detailed explanation about what we do on both your first and follow-up visits, please refer to the Patients page on this website.
- Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?
- On occasion, based on the status of a patient's current physical condition (typically due to a recent accident or injury), there can be times when an adjustment is painful. But for most patients the process is painless and any issues they are currently experiencing are immediately relieved. We do have some patients who either suffer from Fibromyalgia or hypersensitive nervous systems. These patients often find adjustments uncomfortable and even painful. To accommodate such extreme sensitivity, we offer a unique approach to pain-free adjustments. For more information about these specialized adjustments, please call our office or speak with a member of our staff upon your next visit.
- Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
- In most cases, yes, they are quite safe. An examination will be performed to see if there are contraindications to traditional adjustments that include full mobilization (manipulation). Where contraindications exist, a variety of low force techniques may be employed to eliminate risk.
- Is treatment expensive?
- Outside of auto accidents and on-the-job injuries that are covered by Worker's Compensation insurance, insurance coverage is extremely variable. For those who have health insurance, sometimes chiropractic is covered and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes only certain Chiropractors are covered (Dr. Whittaker is a preferred provider for a number of insurance carriers). One must be careful though. Even when insurance is covering the care, the deductible and/or co-pay may be so high that it doesn't help very much. In those cases, we will work with you as we can. When you come in, we will do a complementary coverage analysis so you can understand exactly how your insurance will help and what your out-of-pocket costs will be.
- If I start coming in for chiropractic adjustments, won’t it make me have to keep getting adjustments?
- Starting chiropractic care does not create more need to chiropractic adjustment. As as example, consider if you were to go much of your life without caring for your teeth or or going to a Dentist, then you finally went to a Dentist, a number of things would happen. First, there would most likely be a lot of work that would need to be done, perhaps even requiring multiple visits. Afterward, the Dentist would not tell you that you never need to come back. He would tell you to come for regular check-ups. So it is with chiropractic care. It involves a "retaining", which requires a series of treatments. The course of treatments usually consists of a gradually diminishing frequency of visits. Once the main series of treatments has been completed, most people get checked on a monthly basis.
- Aren’t all chiropractors pretty much the same? Why choose Ohana Chiropractic?
- For those who have seen more than one chiropractor, the answer is obviously no. The more pertinent question may be, why are chiropractors so different from each other? Chiropractors have a variety of philosophical standpoints. Even those who share a similar philosophy use different techniques (various methods of achieving similar goals). At Ohana Chiropractic & Wellness Center, our basic philosophy is rooted in the very foundations of chiropractic, which began in 1895. However, our techniques and understanding are supported by the latest research and advancements.
